In 2016, The University of New Hampshire’s Sustainability Institute and the NEMS Network formed a strategic partnership. UNHSI serves as the coordinating or “backbone” organization for the NEMS Network, providing administrative and program support for NEMSN Steering and Development Committees, and hosting one of the Network’s two annual meetings.
UNHSI also helps recruit and mentor Sustainability Fellows to work on behalf of NEMS Network member communities and for the Network as a whole, conducting research and analysis, implementing pilot programs and conducting community outreach in support of specific sustainability initiatives. This helps UNH provide unique and valuable learning and research opportunities for students and faculty; creates more interconnection and collaboration; and leverages existing resources and expertise and directs new capacity to community sustainability initiatives across New England. UNHSI also provides climate assessments on municipal to state to regional scales across New England.
